The Coffee School Calgary Was Missing.
SCA-certified courses, hands-on workshops, and the credentials the industry recognizes. Taught out of a working studio, six students at a time.
Coffee Is Deeper Than Most People Expect.
Timberline is a coffee school in Calgary. We opened to close the gap in serious specialty coffee training here: a full SCA certification path, a Masterclass for people opening cafes, and workshops for anyone who wants to brew better at home.
Every course happens in our fully equipped studio, kept small so every student gets time on the equipment. Taught by working coffee professionals who still spend their weeks in the industry.
Small classes, real equipment, and skills you can use the day after. That's what we're here to give you.
Trent Rollings.
Trent founded Timberline and is the lead educator at the school. He's spent years in the industry as a World Coffee Championships Representative and Certified Judge, a Q Grader and Instructor, and an SCA Authorized Trainer, with experience running coffee shops, a roastery, and training labs.
In class, his focus is creating a safe, fun environment to practice and develop your skills. He breaks concepts down so they're easier to understand, and gives you time to try them yourself.
How We Teach.
A Safe Space to Learn.
Coffee education can feel intimidating. Timberline isn't. Ask questions, try things, and progress at your pace. Curiosity gets you further than trying to look right.
Time to Try It Yourself.
Real machines, real coffee, real time on the bar. You leave able to do it, not just talk about it.
Concepts Broken Down.
Coffee has a lot going on under the hood. The teaching pulls it apart so it makes sense, whether you're new to specialty or years in.
Built for Small, Hands-On Classes.
The Timberline studio is a fully equipped coffee school in the Victoria Park area of Downtown Calgary. A fully equipped espresso bar, multiple brewing stations, a classroom area, and a cupping area. Everything you'd need to teach a class properly, and everything a student needs to actually do the work.
Classes are kept small so every station gets used. You spend the day on the equipment, not watching from the back. It's personal, hands-on, and focused on your skill development.
- Fully equipped espresso bar with a commercial grinder
- Multiple brewing stations for filter and pour-over work
- Classroom area and a dedicated cupping area
- Small class sizes with dedicated time per student
By Appointment Only.
The studio isn't a cafe, so we don't keep open hours. Book a class and you're welcome to visit any time before or after. If you'd like a tour first, send a note and we'll set something up.
