Terms of service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of www.timberline.coffee (the “Site”) and any purchase you make from Timberline Coffee School. By using the Site or purchasing our products or services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
1. Who We Are
Timberline Coffee School is a specialty coffee education business operated by Ivy & Rill Consulting Inc., an Alberta corporation.

Timberline Coffee School is an SCA-Authorized Trainer (Specialty Coffee Association). Where our courses lead to SCA certifications, those certifications are administered by the SCA under its own policies and requirements. Timberline is responsible for the training experience; the SCA is responsible for the certification.
Our e-commerce platform is provided by Shopify Inc. Payment processing is handled by Shopify Payments and any additional processors we enable at checkout.
2. Definitions
- You, your, customer: any individual or business who accesses the Site or purchases from us.
- Products: everything we sell, including in-person courses, workshops, digital downloads, workshop kits, gift cards, and any physical goods.
- Content: text, graphics, logos, images, videos, downloads, templates, worksheets, slide decks, facilitator notes, and any other material we make available on the Site or in our products.
- Services: any interaction with us, whether through the Site, in-person, or by email/phone.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to make a purchase on the Site. If you are registering a minor for a course or workshop, you must be their parent or legal guardian and you assume full responsibility for the booking, payment, and the minor’s participation.
4. Ordering & Payment
4.1 All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD) unless otherwise stated. Applicable taxes are added at checkout.
4.2 Placing an order on the Site is an offer to purchase. Your order is confirmed when we send you an order confirmation email. We may decline or cancel any order at our discretion (for example, if a product is unavailable, priced incorrectly, or the order appears fraudulent). If we cancel your order, we will refund any payment already made.
4.3 Payment is due at the time of purchase. Payments are processed by Shopify and any additional payment providers you choose at checkout (such as Shop Pay or Klarna). Currency conversion or foreign transaction fees, if any, are set by your card issuer or bank, not by us.
4.4 Discount codes and gift cards must be applied at checkout. We cannot retroactively apply discounts to completed orders.
5. Courses & Workshops (In-Person)
5.1 By enrolling in a course or workshop, you agree to attend on the date and at the location shown at checkout. Any change is subject to our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
5.2 You must: - Provide accurate booking information (name, email, phone, dietary or accessibility needs where requested). - Arrive on time and follow the reasonable instructions of the instructor. - Handle equipment safely and respectfully.
5.3 We reserve the right to remove any participant whose behaviour is unsafe, disruptive, or violates our reasonable standards, without refund.
5.4 Course and workshop schedules, locations, and instructors may change. We will notify you of material changes and offer a refund or reschedule where appropriate.
5.5 Course minimums. Some courses require a minimum number of enrolled participants to run. If we do not reach the minimum, we may cancel or reschedule the course. In that event, you will receive a full refund, the option to transfer to the next available date at no cost, or 100% credit toward another Timberline course or workshop within 12 months. 5.6 Photography and video may occasionally be taken at our courses for marketing purposes. If you do not wish to be included, tell us in advance and we will respect your request.
6. Digital Products, Downloads & Workshop Kits
6.1 Access. Once you purchase a digital product or workshop kit, you receive a download link by email and on the checkout confirmation page. The link remains valid indefinitely, and improvements or updates to the product are provided at no charge.
6.2 License grant. When you purchase a digital product or a workshop kit, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the product as described below. We retain all intellectual property rights in the product and its contents.
6.3 What you may do:
- Download, view, and print the product for the licensed use described at checkout.
- Edit and customize the templates in your own account (for example, Canva) to reflect your business branding.
- Use the product commercially in the context of your own coffee business, cafe, or teaching (as further described in the product-specific license).
6.4 What you may not do:
- Resell, share, sublicense, distribute, or give away the delivery PDF, template links, or any component of the product.
- Upload the product to any marketplace, template library, or file-sharing service.
- Sell the product itself as a template.
- Remove or obscure Timberline attribution or copyright notices from any component you distribute publicly.
- Use the product in a way that misrepresents your affiliation with Timberline Coffee School or the Specialty Coffee Association.
6.5 Workshop Kit licenses. Workshop Kits are sold under two license tiers:
- Single Facilitator: one named facilitator or business may run the workshop under a single purchase.
- Multi-Facilitator: up to five facilitators at one location may run the workshop under a single purchase.
If the number of facilitators exceeds the license tier, a further purchase is required. License compliance is your responsibility.
6.6 SCA content and worksheets. Where a workshop kit includes references to SCA methodology, protocols, or worksheets, those elements remain the property of the Specialty Coffee Association and are used with permission where applicable. Nothing in a workshop kit purchase confers SCA certification authority. Only SCA-Authorized Trainers may issue SCA certifications.
7. Gift Cards
Gift cards issued by Timberline Coffee School can be applied to any product on the Site. They do not expire, are non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash. Unused balance remains on the card indefinitely. Lost or stolen gift cards cannot be replaced without proof of purchase.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 All Content on the Site and in our products (including but not limited to course materials, workshop content, worksheets, slide decks, facilitator notes, photographs, illustrations, logos, and copy) is owned by Ivy & Rill Consulting Inc. or its licensors and is protected by Canadian and international copyright law.
8.2 You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, or create derivative works from any Content except as expressly permitted by a license we grant you (for example, the license terms in Section 6 for digital products and workshop kits).
8.3 “Timberline Coffee School” and associated logos are trademarks of Ivy & Rill Consulting Inc.
8.4 If you submit reviews, testimonials, or other content to us or the Site, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display that content for marketing and educational purposes. You warrant that the content is yours to submit.
9. Site Use — Acceptable Use
You may not use the Site:
- In any unlawful manner or for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose.
- To transmit unsolicited advertising, spam, or malware.
- To interfere with the operation of the Site, other users’ enjoyment of the Site, or our infrastructure.
- To attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, our accounts, or our systems.
- To scrape, harvest, or otherwise collect information about other users.
We reserve the right to restrict or terminate your access to the Site, remove offending content, and pursue legal remedies for violations of this section.
10. Third-Party Websites and Services
The Site may link to third-party websites (for example, Canva template links included in workshop kits) and integrate third-party services (for example, payment processors, Klaviyo, Google Analytics). We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party site or service. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
11. Assumption of Risk (In-Person Courses)
Our in-person courses and workshops involve the use of hot liquids, hot surfaces, electrical equipment (espresso machines, grinders, kettles), sharp objects, and food products. By attending, you acknowledge these risks and agree that you are physically capable of safe participation.
If you have any allergies, sensitivities, or medical conditions that could affect your participation, tell us before your session.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Timberline Coffee School and Ivy & Rill Consulting Inc. are not liable for any injury, illness, or damage arising from your participation in a course or workshop, except where caused by our negligence or willful misconduct.
12. Warranty & Limitation of Liability
12.1 We warrant that our products and services will be provided with reasonable care and skill.
12.2 Except as required by law and except for our warranty in Section 12.1, our products and services are provided “as is” and we make no other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
12.3 To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or any product or service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
12.4 We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, or lost data.
12.5 Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
13. Cancellation & Refunds
Refunds, cancellations, and rescheduling are governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please read it carefully before purchasing.
14. Privacy
Your use of the Site is subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information. By using the Site, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.
15. Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures in performing our obligations caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, pandemics, government actions, utility failures, war, terrorism, or serious instructor illness.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top and post the revised Terms on the Site. Material changes will be communicated by email where reasonable. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
17. Governing Law & Disputes
17.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.
17.2 Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms will be resolved in the courts of Alberta, Canada, and you consent to their exclusive jurisdiction, unless applicable consumer protection law requires otherwise.
17.3 Before initiating any formal dispute, we ask that you contact us at hello@timberline.coffee and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the concern informally. Most issues can be sorted out with a conversation.
18. Miscellaneous
18.1 Entire agreement. These Terms (together with the Refund & Cancellation Policy and Privacy Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and us.
18.2 Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
18.3 No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.
18.4 Assignment. You may not assign or transfer any of your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent. We may assign these Terms freely.
